Concrete Yardage FAQ
How do I figure out yards of concrete?
The exact formula is: Length (ft) × Width (ft) × Depth (ft) ÷ 27 = cubic yards. For example, a 10 ft by 10 ft slab that is 4 inches (0.333 ft) thick would be 10 × 10 × 0.333 = 33.3 cubic feet. Divide 33.3 by 27 to get 1.23 cubic yards. Always add 10% for waste, bringing your total order to 1.35 yards.
How do you figure out yards of concrete needed?
Measure your project in feet (Length × Width × Thickness in feet) to get Cubic Feet, then divide by 27. For instance, a 12 ft × 12 ft patio at 4 inches thick (0.333 ft) is 12 × 12 × 0.333 = 47.95 cubic feet. Divide by 27 to get 1.77 cubic yards. Round up to order 2 yards.
How to figure out cubic yards of concrete?
Take your volume in cubic feet (L × W × D in feet) and divide by 27. There are exactly 27 cubic feet in one cubic yard. Our calculator does this automatically for any shape.
How to convert square feet to cubic yards of concrete?
Multiply your square footage by the thickness in feet, then divide by 27. For example, if you have a 200 sq ft driveway that is 4 inches (0.333 ft) thick: 200 × 0.333 = 66.6 cubic feet. Divide 66.6 by 27 to get exactly 2.47 cubic yards of concrete.
