Cement Calculator

Calculate how many bags of cement you need for any concrete or mortar project. Choose mix grade, enter volume and get cement bags, sand and aggregate quantities.

Quick Reference Rules of Thumb:

  • For M20 concrete: approximately 8 bags of 50kg cement per 1m³
  • For standard mortar (1:4): approximately 5 bags of 50kg cement per m² at 10mm depth

How Many Bags of Cement Do I Need?

Your required cement quantity depends entirely on the mix ratio and the total volume of concrete or mortar. For M20 concrete (the most common residential grade), you need approximately 8 bags of 50kg cement per cubic meter.

Different mix ratios alter the cement requirement drastically. A richer mix (like M25) requires roughly 11 bags per cubic meter, whereas a leaner mix (like M10) requires just over 4 bags. For mortar and rendering, the dry volume conversion factor is lower (1.33 instead of 1.54), altering the math slightly.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much cement do I need for 1m³ of concrete?

For M20 concrete (the most common grade), you need approximately 8 bags of 50kg cement per cubic meter.

How many 50kg bags of cement per cubic meter?

For M20 grade: 8 bags. For M15: 6.2 bags. For M25: 11 bags.

How to calculate cement quantity in concrete?

Use the mix ratio. For M20 (1:1.5:3), cement proportion = 1 ÷ (1+1.5+3) = 0.182. Multiply by 1.54 (dry volume factor) and by density (1,440 kg/m³). Divide by bag weight.
