Always convert your thickness into feet first! If you are pouring a 4-inch slab, divide 4 by 12 to get 0.33 feet. Then, multiply Length × Width × 0.33 to find your total volume in Cubic Feet.

Portland Cement Calculator (Mixing from Scratch)

The standard concrete mixing ratio is 1 part Portland cement, 2 parts sand, and 3 parts gravel (by volume).

To produce one full cubic yard of standard 3000 PSI concrete from scratch, you will need approximately:

  • Portland Cement: Five 94lb bags (470 lbs total)
  • Sand: 1,400 lbs (roughly 0.5 cubic yards)
  • Gravel: 1,800 lbs (roughly 0.75 cubic yards)
  • Water: 25 to 30 gallons

How do I figure out how much cement I need?
First calculate your total concrete volume in cubic feet. Then apply your mix ratio. For a standard 1:2:4 mix (1 part cement : 2 sand : 4 aggregate), cement makes up 1/7 of the total dry volume. Multiply total concrete volume by 1.54 (dry volume factor), then multiply by 1/7 to get cement volume in cubic feet. Divide by 0.0347 cubic feet per kg to get kilograms of cement.
How many bags of cement per cubic meter?
For M20 grade concrete (1:1.5:3 ratio), you need approximately 8 bags of 50kg cement per cubic meter. For M15 (1:2:4), approximately 6.7 bags per cubic meter.
