Understanding Your Pregnancy Timeline
Finding out you are pregnant is an incredibly exciting moment! One of the very first questions expecting parents have is: "When is the baby due?"
Our Pregnancy Due Date Calculator uses standard medical formulas—the exact same methods used by OB-GYNs and midwives worldwide—to give you an accurate timeline of your pregnancy journey.
Two Ways to Calculate:
- By LMP (Last Menstrual Period): This is the most common method. Pregnancy is officially measured from the first day of your last period, not the day you conceived. This means that during the first two "weeks" of your pregnancy, you weren't actually pregnant yet! We add 280 days (40 weeks) to your LMP.
- By Conception Date: If you were tracking ovulation closely, or underwent IUI/IVF, you might know your exact conception date. In this case, we add 266 days (38 weeks) directly to the conception date.
Adjusting for Cycle Length
The standard 280-day rule assumes a perfectly average 28-day menstrual cycle. However, every woman's body is different. If your average cycle is 32 days, your ovulation (and thus conception) likely happened slightly later. Our calculator allows you to adjust your cycle length for a more precise Estimated Due Date (EDD).
Frequently Asked Questions
How is my due date calculated?
The standard medical method (Naegele's rule) calculates your due date by adding 280 days (40 weeks) to the first day of your last menstrual period (LMP). Our calculator also allows you to adjust for shorter or longer cycle lengths.
What if I know my exact date of conception?
If you know the exact date of conception (e.g., via IVF or ovulation tracking), you can select the 'Calculate by Conception' method. This adds 266 days (38 weeks) to the conception date to find your due date.
How accurate is the estimated due date (EDD)?
An estimated due date is just that—an estimate. Only about 4% to 5% of babies are born on their exact due date. Most babies arrive anywhere between 37 and 42 weeks.
When does the second and third trimester start?
The First Trimester ends at week 13 (Day 6). The Second Trimester runs from week 14 through week 27 (Day 6). The Third Trimester begins at week 28 and lasts until birth.
