What is the Melt Value of gold?

Will a pawn shop or jeweler pay me the full melt value?
No. Buyers need to make a profit and cover the costs of refining the scrap gold. Typically, a reputable buyer will offer you between 70% and 80% of the actual melt value.
What does Karat (K) mean?
Karat is a measure of gold purity out of 24. 24K gold is 99.9% pure. 18K gold is 18 parts gold and 6 parts alloy (75% pure). 14K is 58.3% pure. The higher the karat, the higher the melt value.
What is a Troy Ounce?
