Decode the Hidden Numbers

For centuries, philosophers, mystics, and mathematicians have studied the numerical values of language. With our Gematria Calculator, you can instantly find the numeric value of any English word or phrase across the three most popular ciphers.

The Three Ciphers Explained

  • English Gematria (x6): Often used in modern numerology. It is believed that the multiplier of 6 represents the physical world.
  • Simple Gematria (Ordinal): The most straightforward cipher. It is great for basic number matching and finding mathematical symmetry in language.
  • Pythagorean Gematria (Reduction): Attributed to the Greek mathematician Pythagoras. By reducing all letters to a single digit (1-9), you can distill a word down to its fundamental numerological root.

Note: This calculator ignores spaces, punctuation, and numbers, focusing strictly on the alphabetical characters to compute the true gematria sum.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Gematria?
Gematria is an alphanumeric code or cipher where letters are assigned numerical values. It originated in Jewish mysticism (Kabbalah) for interpreting Hebrew texts, but has since been adapted to the English alphabet to find hidden meanings in words and phrases.
How does English Gematria work?
In standard English Gematria, the alphabet is multiplied by 6. A=6, B=12, C=18, all the way to Z=156. The values of each letter in your word are added together to get the final score.
What is Simple Gematria?
Simple Gematria (also known as Ordinal Gematria) assigns numbers to letters based on their standard alphabetical order. A=1, B=2, C=3, up to Z=26.
What is Pythagorean Gematria?
Pythagorean Gematria reduces the alphabet to single digits from 1 to 9. A=1, B=2... I=9. Then it resets: J=1, K=2... R=9, and S=1... Z=8.
